Senator Roger F. Wicker was appointed to the United States Senate on December 31, 2007 by Governor Haley Barbour, starting a new chapter in his long history of dedicated service to Mississippi and the nation. Prior to his Senate tenure, Wicker served seven terms in the United States Congress and prior to that was a member of the Mississippi State Senate from 1987-1994.
Born in 1951 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, he attended public schools in Pontotoc prior to enrolling at the University of Mississippi where he earned his B.A. and law degrees.
Roger and his wife, the former Gayle Long of Tupelo, have three children, Margaret, Caroline, and McDaniel. The Wickers are active members of First Baptist Church Tupelo.
